Maintenance Technician for Rotating Equipment

Iowa Fertilizer Company (IFCo) is looking for a Maintenance Technician for Rotating Equipment to join our Maintenance team in Wever, Iowa. This individual will be responsible for performing highly diversified duties including installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives. The successful candidate will have a skill set aligned with the expectations of a Millwright.


At a minimum, tasks will include:

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Align & level machines and equipment using lasers, hoists, jacks, hand tools, etc.
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
  • Inspect drives, motors and belts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery, check fluid levels, and replace filters.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Plan and execute rigging for overhead lifts.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Layout mounting holes, using measuring instruments and drill holes with power tools.
  • Replace defective parts of machines or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection and testing using knowledge of machine function, metal properties and mathematics.
  • May be required to occasionally work overtime (turnaround, shutdowns, nights, weekends, on-call).
  • Domestic and International travel by airplane may be required.
  • Ability to read and interpret P & IDs.
  • Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies.
  • Ability to climb straight ladders.
  • Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Physical requirements – bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Confined space entry may be required.
  • Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
  • Industrial chemical plant environment.
  • Noise levels may require hearing protection.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to gather and evaluate complex information.
  • Ability to use personal computer software for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • SAP experience a plus.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 4-year apprenticeship or documented vocational and on-the-job training.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years, experience supporting environmental compliance in the chemical industry or other industrial manufacturing.  A skill related associate degree will count towards experience.
  • Fertilizer manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience working on API pumps, compressors, turbines, and fans.
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Good trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and hard working.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to gather and evaluate complex information.
  • Ability to use personal computer software for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Experience with SAP a plus.
